SRA Launches ˇImagínalo! California Edition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 29, 2008

SRA/McGRAW-HILL LAUNCHES ¡Imagínalo! california EDITION:

SPANISH COMPANION TO IMAGINE IT! ELEMENTARY READING CURRICULUM

COLUMBUS, Ohio – SRA/McGraw-Hill has published the California edition of ¡Imagínalo! – the companion program to Imagine It! that helps students develop Spanish literacy.

Developed with substantial input from California teachers, ¡Imagínalo! for Grades K–6 builds Spanish literacy in dual-immersion classrooms using a syllabic approach to teach reading and authentic Spanish literature.

Partnering the two versions of SRA’s core reading and language arts programs allows ELD students to seamlessly transition from the Spanish-language program to the English-language program. Both programs meet California state standards.

¡Imagínalo! uses proven, scaffolded support for Spanish-speaking students learning to read, including:

  • Robust instruction in the five key areas of reading
  • Engaging themes in a variety of genres
  • User-friendly and easy-to-navigate teacher materials
  • Options to differentiate instruction and assess student progress
  • Authentic Spanish literature
  • Comprehensive tools to teach essential survival vocabulary and transferable skills
  • Dual-immersion instruction for teaching Spanish as a second language

Just like the Imagine It! program, ¡Imagínalo! engages every learner at every level, monitors progress, and differentiates instruction throughout the year.

“About 25% of California students are bilingual or have a first language other than English,” said Ruth Cochrane, publisher of ¡Imagínalo! “According to some reports, it’s likely that many California elementary schools will not reach academic proficiency targets under NCLB by the 2013-14 school year, in many cases due to the challenges faced by English-language learners. By starting now to address the needs of the growing ELD population through curriculum such as ¡Imagínalo! this issue could be reversed.”

About Imagine It!

Imagine It! is the result of 45 years of research and field study. It contains all the elements recommended by the National Reading Panel: instruction in phonological and phonemic awareness, explicit phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The program has a focus on Response to Intervention (RtI) and covers all daily Reading, Language Arts, and Writing curriculum requirements. It also has abundant curriculum links to Science and Social Studies. Imagine It! fully integrates state-of-the-art technology tools to enhance learning.

The authors, who are researchers themselves, continue to update the program as new studies are published revealing the latest findings on effective instructional methods. For more information, visit ImagineItReading.com.
